Corps of Engineers announces temporary closure at Clamshell Lake boat ramp

An alternative ramp for the public is the Lower Hay access point off Crow Wing County Road 145 and Rustic Point Road near Pequot Lakes.

Starting Oct. 5, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers St. Paul District temporarily closed its Clamshell Lake boat landing on the Whitefish Chain of Lakes near Pequot Lakes.

The approximate two-and-a-half-week closure is necessary to perform maintenance on the ramp to ensure it is safe for everyone who uses it.

“The project will greatly improve the public boat ramp and ensure the continued safety of our visitors and their equipment,” Jason Hauser, lead natural resources specialist, said in a news release.

An alternative ramp for the public is the Lower Hay access point off Crow Wing County Road 145 and Rustic Point Road near Pequot Lakes.

Over time, activities such as power loading boats onto trailers at boat landings damages the ramps. The activity often creates large holes at the end of the ramp which can be extremely dangerous.
