New Ulm Steel swept the Breezy Point North Stars in North American Tier III junior hockey action on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 30-31.

On Dec. 30, Orlando Scherez had a hat trick and teammate Max Kjome had four assists as the Steel had eight goals. New Ulm led 5-1 after two periods before each team scored three times in the third session. Austin Langworthy scored twice while Mitchell El-Wailli and Steven Kukla each added a goal in the loss.

Winning netminder Nathan Siclovan had 33 saves while Bronson Moore and Magnus Lindhe combined for 35 saves for the North Stars.

On Dec. 31, Jacob Padley snapped a 3-3 deadlock with the winning goal for the Steel at 17:03 of the third period. Kukla, Tristyn Sabina and Langworthy each scored for Breezy Point. Lindhe finished with 51 saves while Siclovan stopped 27 shots.

The North Stars, 15-9 overall, are scheduled to play at the Granite City Lumberjacks on Saturday, Jan. 7, in St. Cloud.
