Miska, Patriots sweep Panthers

The Pequot Lakes Patriot softball team swept the host Park Rapids Panthers 7-2 and 12-4 in a Mid-State Conference doubleheader on Thursday, April 30.

The Pequot Lakes Patriot softball team swept the host Park Rapids Panthers 7-2 and 12-4 in a Mid-State Conference doubleheader on Thursday, April 30.

In the opener, Patriots' pitcher Kathryn Miska held the Panthers to just three hits while striking out 11 to earn the win.

"Miska pretty much kept Park Rapids in check," said Pequot Lakes coach Bret Sergent. "We did hit the ball pretty well, especially in the second game."

Top hitters for the Patriots were Haley Wiebolt, 3-for-4 with two RBI, Alex Kotaska, 2-3 with two RBI, and Taylor Crocker, 2-4 with two RBI.

In the nightcap, Laura Squires and Wiebolt were both 3-4 with two runs scored, Hannah Zimmerman was 3-5 with two RBI, Taylor Crocker went 3-5 with an RBI and Barbara Miller homered. Miska, who struck out eight, was the winning pitcher.

The Patriots, 6-2 in the conference and 10-2 overall, are scheduled to host Aitkin on Thursday, May 7.

Patriots 10, Osakis 0

Miska pitched a one-hit shutout with nine strikeouts to give Pequot Lakes non-conference win over the Silverstreaks on Tuesday, April 28. The only hit for Osakis was a third-inning single.

"Kathryn pitched a nice game, and we made some nice plays behind her, including a great catch in right field by Alex (Kotaska)," Sergent said.

The Patriots led 2-0 after the second inning and broke the game open with four more runs in the third.

Miller finished 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI. Alex Kotaska, Hannah Zimmerman and Taylor Crocker each had two hits while Emilee Buell had three RBI.
