Kate Stephens posted a shutout by stopping 39 shots as the Northern Lakes Lightning beat the Northern Tier Stars 2-0 Thursday, Nov. 11.
“They played great,” head coach Chuck Deutsch said. “We play them every year - except for last year because of COVID - but we’ve never beat them in the 13 years we played them … Going into this, I knew we had the talent and I thought we could see what these girls can do. We came right out of the gate and just stormed them.”
Jada Brodzinski and Jasmyn German tallied goals for the Lightning while Rose Aldridge and Ella Peterson each recorded an assist.
“(Northern Tier) tends to be a little more gritty and forceful. Body contact is a part of their game. I told the girls they were going to have to outskate them, out-hustle them and be physical … and they did. They matched them up pretty well.
Goalie Kate Stephens played what her coach called “a phenomenal game,” stopping all 39 shots she faced.
