The Breezy Point North Stars dropped a pair of 5-4 games on the road against the New Ulm Steel on Saturday, Feb. 8, and the Willmar WarHawks on Sunday, Feb. 9.
Against New Ulm, Brett Reed had the hat trick, including two goals to give the visitors a 2-1 lead after the first period. The Steel tied it, but Iaauli Tosi and Reed scored to give the North Stars a 4-2 advantage after two periods. New Ulm scored three straight goals in the third session, including the game winner with 33 seconds remaining. Losing netminder Griffin Foster stopped 45 shots.
Against Willmar, Garrett Freeman had the hat trick for Breezy Point, which fell behind 2-0 early before Freeman netted his first goal. The WarHawks eventually led 3-1 before Freeman and Tosi tallied to tie it. Willmar regained the lead, but Freeman completed his hat trick to make it 4-4 after two periods. The WarHawks then won the game late in the third period. Losing goalie Jake Sumner had 62 stops.
The North Stars are scheduled to play a pair of 7:30 p.m. games at Willmar on Friday, Feb. 14, and Saturday, Feb. 15.
