Hayden Boelter netted two goals, including the eventual game-winner to lead the Northern Lakes Lightning past the Arrowhead Warhawks Wednesday, Jan. 1, at the Herb Brooks Holiday Classic Tournament.

Northern Lakes finished 3-0 over the three-day tournament, good for first place in the Open Division.

Boelter’s second goal gave the Lightning a 3-1 lead two minutes into the final period and came on a power play with an assist from Rose Aldridge.

Caitlyn Gutzman opened the scoring for Northern Lakes and Alyssa Kosloski finished with two assists.

The Lightning were outshot 27-25 with goalie Kate Stephens making 25 saves.

Boelter and Kosloski both finished with seven points in the tournament while Gutzman had six.

Northern Lakes 4, Luverne 1

Gutzman scored a hat trick to get to over 100 points in her career as the Northern Lakes Lighting beat the Luverne Cardinals 4-1 Tuesday, Dec. 31, at the Herb Brooks Holiday Classic.

The goal that brought Gutzman to that career achievement came in the first period at the 7:24 mark and was assisted by Emily Brunkhorst and Arianna Lemieur.

Gutzman added two more goals in the second period and Riley Fogarty scored in the third. Boelter picked up three assists for the Lightning as well.

Stephens recorded 25 saves for the Lightning who were outshot 26-22 by Luverne.

Kosloski recorded a hat trick and assisted on a fourth goal to lead the Northern Lakes Lightning past the Albert Lea Tigers 6-0 in the first round of the Open Division of the Herb Brooks Holiday Classic Monday, Dec. 30, at National Sports Center.

Gutzman picked up two points on a pair of assists, raising her career varsity total to 99 points.

Also scoring goals for Northern Lakes were Rose Aldridge, Savannah Abear and Boelter.

Stephens posted the shutout for the Lightning, who outshot Albert Lea 51-15.

Lightning 5, North Shore 3

The Lightning stormed back on the first-period goals from Boelter and Fogarty to erase a two-goal deficit and they went on to defeat the North Shore Storm 5-3 Saturday, Jan 4.

Boelter’s short-handed goal on an assist from Gutzman cuts the Storm lead to 2-1 and Fogarty’s goal on an assist from Megan Muller tied the tame at the end of the first period.

Gutzman and Kosloski scored in the third period to make it 4-2 Lightning and Rose Aldridge’s goal closed out the game.

The Lightning were out shot by a margin of 27-25 and Stephens recorded 24 saves.
