Area Girls Hockey: Abear nets game-winner in Lightning victory
CROSBY—Savannah Abear netted the winning goal that gave the Northern Lakes Lightning a 2-1 victory over the Robbinsdale Armstrong/Cooper Wings in a non-conference match at the Hallett Center Friday, Nov. 16.
Abear's goal came 19 seconds into a two-skater advantage as a result of two roughing penalties on the Wings that caused a lengthy delay in the game while emergency personnel attended to injured Lightning forward Alexa Holm.
The Wings drew first blood on a Paige Loidolt goal with 2:53 left in the first period. Hayden Boelter countered for Northern Lakes with a score less than two minutes later.
The Wings outshot the Lightning 22-13, but Northern Lakes goalie Kate Stephens held on for 21 saves including 11 in the third period.
