A young Pequot Lakes Patriots girls’ golf team does have two returning varsity players in senior Maddie Pederson and sophomore Morgan Krieger.

“Both players are determined to improve their games even more this season,” said Pequot Lakes coach Savannah Smith, a former Patriot golfer who is starting her fourth season. “With that being said, we have a relatively young team ready to make some waves. With four more spots up for grabs on the varsity squad, I think we will see just how competitive these younger players can be.”

Smith said her golfers are excited to open the season with the first tournament “on our home turf” Thursday, April 15, at Crosswoods Golf Course in Crosslake.

“With an interesting 2020 behind us (because that spring season was canceled with COVID-19), the girls are eager to be together as a team again,” said Smith, who added “some freshmen players to watch for this season are Ruby Seidl, Annie Neva, Ellie Ouradnik and Charlie Sullivan. We also have some new players, sophomore Kate Stephens and eighth grader Geevieve Birkeland, who I’m excited to see on the course.”

The Section 6-2A tournament will be Friday, June 4, at Blackberry Ridge in Sartell.
