The Pine River-Backus Tigers golfer Hannah Barchus will set her sights on returning to the Class A state girls’ golf meet this spring. The sophomore competed at state in 2019 before last season was cancelled due to COVID-19.

“We graduated three seniors from the 2019 team that was Section 6A and Northern Pines Conference runners-up,” said PR-B head coach Mark Gonnion, who added that Cate Travis is also a sophomore letterwinner. “Cate also takes aim on a possible trip to the state meet. Both Hannah and Cate have gained another year of growth and experience on the course.”

Another player who could contribute this spring is eighth-grader Kassidy Bristow, who Gonnion said will “develop as a valuable contributor for our team.”

Junior high players include: Molly Lupella, Katlyn Burns and Jovi Borland.

“We will be competing mainly as individuals this season as we work to rebuild our varsity team,” said Gonnion, who has coached 26 seasons of golf.

Rick Aulie is an assistant coach for the Tigers.

PR-B is scheduled to open the season Tuesday, April 13, at Park Rapids. The Section 6A meet will be June 1-2 in Perham.
