Girls basketball: Tigers win three straight

After losing the first two games of the season, the Pine River-Backus girls basketball team responded last week with decisive victories over Cass Lake-Bena, Verndale and Lake of the Woods.

After losing the first two games of the season, the Pine River-Backus girls basketball team responded last week with decisive victories over Cass Lake-Bena, Verndale and Lake of the Woods.

Tigers 70, Bears 35

Bailey Wynn recorded 24 points and seven steals to lead the Pine River-Backus Tigers past the Lake of the Woods Bears 70-35 in a Northwoods Conference game Friday, Dec. 8.

Alyssa Semler added 18 points for the Tigers, who shot 52 percent (27-52) from the field.

Tigers 70, Pirates 50

Wynn collected 19 points to lead the Pine River Tigers in a 70-50 non-conference victory over the Verndale Pirates Thursday, Dec. 7.

Olivia Adkins and Rylie Hirschey added 14 and 11 points, respectively, for PR-B while Gabby Rainwater finished with eight points and a team-high eight rebounds.

Semmler posted 20 points in the Pine River-Backus Tigers' 68-34 win over the Cass Lake-Bena Panthers in a Northwoods Conference match-up Tuesday, Dec. 5.
