Pequot Lakes’ Maci Martini registered 20 points for the Patriots as they beat the Pine River-Backus Tigers 60-42 Tuesday, Nov. 30.

“I thought we got off to a little bit of a slow start – working through those first game nerves that always pop up – but I thought we made some nice adjustments at halftime, played a little more open game in the second half and shot the ball better,” head coach Brian Lempola said. “That was the big difference in the second half, because in the first half we didn’t shoot all that well.”

Isabel Larson added 11 points for a Patriots team that had 10 girls in the scoring column.

Ramsey Tulenchik’s 24 points led the Tigers who only trailed by two at halftime, but scored just 13 in the second half.

“Defensively, we did a really nice job,” Lempola said. “We rotated a number of players in and they all played well.”

Claire Dahl added seven points for the Tigers.

“These are two teams with section title aspirations who want to get their seasons off to a good start,” Lempola said. “We knew PR-B was going to bring a ton of energy, so to get the win is huge.”
