Pequot Lakes’ Tommy Blomer recorded the Patriots’ only touchdown on a 50-yard pass from Clay Erickson as they fell 32-6 to the Detroit Lakes Lakers Friday, Oct. 1.

“We are down quite a bit,” head coach Bill Magnuson said. “We started six to seven starters, but a lot of kids kind of stepped up and showed they can play decent football at the varsity level … There are a lot of positives with all the young kids and the valuable playing experience earned.”

Caden Nelson rushed for 108 yards on 19 carries, which Magnuson called “a bright spot” for the team.

Darby Boelter led the team in receiving, catching three passes for 56 yards.

The Patriots will host the also-winless Pillager Huskies on Friday, Oct. 8, for their homecoming game. Magnuson expects three or four of his injured starters to return for that game.

“You have two programs that have done really well, but are both winless,” Magnuson said. “It should make for an interesting game and we're getting healthy now, maybe at the right time, so we’ll see if that bodes well for getting a victory … The kids are frustrated being 0-5, but they aren’t settling. Let’s keep moving forward and working hard.”
