The Pequot Lakes Patriots have high expectations for the season with the return of 29 letterwinners, including eight starters on offense and five on defense.

“We have many players who saw action in varsity games last year, and that experience will pay off and help with depth,” said Pequot Lakes head coach Bill Magnuson. “The players returning are excited to take the field with a second year in this offense and defense. So confidence will be high as we continue our proud tradition.”

Returning letterwinners include: seniors Josh Pettit, Anthony Sullivan, Jacobs Faacks, Myca Reynolds, Cale Wolf, Zach Jorgens, Dylan Collins, Braden Holmes and Daltin Ackerman; juniors Cole Trottier, Landon Roy, Tyler Hidde, Alex Hannahs, Ryan Monahan, Hunter Wendt, Logan Hill, Will Larson, Elijah Thell, Ty English, Bode Magnuson, Carter Sjoblad, Caleb Davis, Erik Larsen, Alex Morgan, Hunter Nybakken and Jack Benson; and sophomores Eli Jorgens, Vinny Sposito and Nic Kotaska.

Magnuson is hoping that Sjoblad and Monahan, Sposito and Ryan Harmala will contribute on offense at the receiver position.

“We’re also looking forward to Roy, Hannahs, Hill and Trottier adding depth on our offensive line,” Magnuson said.

On defense, the Patriot coaches look for English, Morgan, Benson, Wendt and Zach Jorgens to step in and replace a strong linebacker group from last year.

Last fall, in Magnuson’s first year as head coach, Pequot Lakes finished 3-4 in the conference and 5-5 overall after losing to Perham 54-33 in the section semifinals. The Patriots had reached the Class 3A state semifinals in 2017.

Non-letterwinners include: senior Dylan Galles; junior Carmen Horsman; and sophomores Colten Cain, Jack Schindel, Karsen Kinyon, Evin Rudd, Korey Kinyon, Logan Mejdrich and Keaton Brill.

Assistant coaches for Pequot Lakes are Brian Homan, Gregg Martig, Pete Ryan, Kirk Loge, Andy Kratochvil, Dave Ackerman and Joby Goerges.

The Patriots are scheduled to open the season by hosting the Pillager Huskies at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29.
