Connor Tulenchik rushed for three touchdowns and was on the receiving end of another as the Pine River-Backus Tiger Football team topped the Lake Park-Audubon 30-0 in the opening round of the Section 6-1A playoffs on Tuesday, Oct. 26.

“We did what we needed to do,” head coach Tom Demars said. “They played us tough last time for most of the game, and they did it again tonight. We had to earn what we could get, and fortunately we are moving on.”

The teams started the game by exchanging turnovers on downs, but the Tigers eventually found the end zone later in the first quarter when quarterback Irvin Tulenchik found Connor Tulenchik on a 15-yard pass.

Connor’s number was called again in the second quarter with an 11-yard touchdown run, giving the Tigers a 16-0 lead heading into halftime.

After another Connor Tulenchik touchdown in the third quarter, the Tigers recovered the ensuing kickoff that ricocheted off a member of the Raider return team, allowing Connor Tulenchik to score yet again, this time from 27 yards out to give the Tigers a 30-0 victory and a season record of 8-1.

“We have a lot of improvements to make,” Irvin Tulenchik said. “We aren’t even close to how we could be playing.”

The Tigers move on to face New York Mills in the second round of the playoffs. PR-B suffered its only loss of the season to New York Mills in September, losing by a score of 26-12.

“We have been waiting to play them again since we lost to them,” Irvin Tulenchik said. “It was a real eye opener when we lost to them and ever since then, we have wanted another chance.”
