Boys Hockey: Lightning win 13th straight

Caiden Kjelstrom recorded two goals for Class 1A’s ninth-ranked Northern Lakes Lightning as they beat the Breckenridge-Wahpeton Blades 7-1 Friday, March 5.

Hunter Nybakken registered three assists for the Lightning who outshot the Blades 69-10.

Northern Lakes 4, Little Falls 2

Nybakken’s early third-period goal proved to be the game winner as Class 1A’s ninth-ranked Northern Lakes Lightning defeated Class 1A’s third-ranked Little Falls Flyers 4-2 in a non-conference game Tuesday, March 2.

It was the 12th straight win for the Lightning and snapped a four-game winning streak for Little Falls. The Flyers outshot the Lightning 54-23, but Northern Lakes goalie Adler Hoagland recorded 52 saves.

The game was tied at one after one period with Nicholas Stevens of Little Falls and Carter Holtzleicer of Northern Lakes netting goals.

Isaac Peterson’s goal in the second period made it 2-1 Northern Lakes and Nybakken pushed the margin to 3-1 with his goal at the start of the third period.

The two teams each scored another goal with Kjelstrom tallying the Northern Lakes goal and Gunnar Gustafson scoring for Little Falls for the 4-2 final.
