The Pequot Lakes boys’ golf team will be led this season by junior Tyler Seeling, who finished 15th at the Class A state meet in 2019 and then played in the National High School Invitational last August at Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina.
“Tyler will be our leader, and has a lot of competitive experience,” Pequot Lakes coach Steve Stoxen said of Seeling, who was one of just three area golfers to play in the national tournament. “The rest of our team has some really good athletes, but not a lot of varsity golf familiarity. It truly takes a while for golfers to learn how to score under competitive circumstances.”
Hunter Nybakken and Quady Bernu also lettered for Pequot Lakes in 2019 before the 2020 season was cancelled because of COVID-19. Others who could contribute this spring are Joey Dott and Ethan Thomas.

Robert Fischer and Tyler Gognion are assistant coaches under Stoxen, who is starting his 35th year as head coach.
“We are looking forward to the opportunity to compete again after missing last season,” said Stoxen, whose team is scheduled to open at Blackberry Ridge in Sartell on Monday, April 19.
The section 6-2A meet is scheduled for Monday, June 7, also at Blackberry Ridge. The Patriots will be playing meets this spring at area courses like The Preserve in Pequot Lakes, Craguns’ Legacy in Brainerd and Deacon’s Lodge in Breezy Point.
