Brady Raph registered 20 points and 11 rebounds for the Pine River-Backus Tigers as they took down the Blackduck Drakes 64-55 Tuesday, Feb. 12.

Torry Hirschey added 15 points for the Tigers while Nathaniel Wosmek had 13 points and 10 rebounds in the Northland Conference game.

Tigers 77, Red Lake 71

Raph, Hirschey and Louis Bueckers all hit more than 20 points in a 77-71 win for Pine River-Backus over Red Lake in a Northland Conference game Wednesday, Feb. 13.

"We played well in spurts," coach John Riewer said. "It was our third game in a row this week, so we looked sluggish at times. I'm so proud of our kids. It has been a magical season. They found a way to win, and we hit some big 3-point shots when we had to."

Raph led the way with 24 points and was followed by Bueckers with 22 and Hirschey with 20.

Early in the first half, after hitting his third 3-pointer, Raph tallied his 1,000th career point. The junior guard said the shot came on a play "like any other," and he knew it was going in as soon as the ball left his hand.

With that goal out of the way, he turned his attention to a new goal.

"We're trying to get the record for most wins for Coach (Riewer)," Raph said. "The record he has for a team is 21, and we are trying to get 22 and we have a chance."

Hirschey also had 11 rebounds and 10 assists in the in the game, while Bueckers had nine boards.

The Tigers improved to 9-4 in conference play with the win.

Raph and Hirschey combined for 51 points for the Tigers who rolled past the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines 83-54 in a non-conference game Thursday, Feb. 14.

Raph contributed a game-high 27 and Hirschey finished with 24.

Needing just one point, Hirschey tallied his 1,000th career point early in the game.

Louis Bueckers added 13 points and Nathaniel Wosmek scored 10 for the 18-4 Tigers who have won four straight and six of their last seven.

"The kids are overachieving, and that is a compliment to them," Riewer said. "I just hope they keep overachieving the rest of the season."
