Boys Basketball: Pierz tips Patriots in double overtime

Jonah Prokott scored 21 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for the Pierz Pioneers in their 77-72 double-overtime boys’ basketball win over the Pequot Lakes Patriots on Monday, Jan. 20, in Pierz.

Bode Magnuson led all scorers with 30 points for Pequot Lakes while teammates Alex Morgan and Korey Jackson also scored double figures. The game was tied 60-60 at the end of regulation. Both teams scored seven points in the first overtime, but the Pioneers enjoyed a 13-8 edge in the second overtime.

Pequot Lakes’ game with Aitkin was postponed Friday, Jan. 17, because of poor weather conditions. It was scheduled to be made up Tuesday, Jan. 21, and switched to Pequot Lakes. The Feb. 13 game between the Patriots and Aitkin has been moved to Aitkin.

Pequot Lakes, 9-6 overall, is scheduled to host Park Rapids in a Mid-State Conference game at 5:45 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23. The Patriots’ varsity girls basketball game will follow as part of a doubleheader.

On Thursday, Jan. 16, Pequot Lakes’ Korey Jackson had 17 points and Alex Morgan 14 for the Patriots as they fell to the visiting Bemidji Lumberjacks in non-conference action. Colten Jensen scored a game-high 28 points for Bemidji, which enjoyed a 29-23 halftime lead before adding 42 points in the second half.

On Tuesday, Jan. 14, Korey Jackson made seven 3-point baskets and scored a game-high 28 points as Pequot Lakes assumed an early 20-4 lead and cruised past the Barnum Bombers in non-conference boys’ basketball action.


Bode Magnuson added 15 points while Alex Morgan had 10 for Pequot Lakes, which led 42-20 at the intermission. The Patriots had a 28-19 edge in rebounds and a 13-7 advantage in steals.
