Kyosuke Marcum’s 11 points paced the No. 2 seeded Pine River-Backus Tigers in a 54-36 loss to the No. 3 Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Jaguars in the Section 5-1A Quarterfinals Saturday, March 7.

“Give credit to Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa - they have an outstanding basketball team, they are well-coached and they play great defense - but we just couldn’t put the ball in the basket,” Coach John Riewer said. “We finished with 36 points. I don’t remember us getting under 50 points in the whole season.”

Champ Howard added 8 points for the Tigers who end their season with an 18-9 overall record.

“We had an outstanding season,” Riewer said. “We won 18 basketball games, and against some pretty good competition.”
