Boys basketball: Raph, Hirschey honored as top players

In the Pine River-Backus boys basketball team's year-end banquet Wednesday, April 3, junior Brady Raph was named the team's top offensive player while senior Torry Hirschey was named the best defensive player.

Raph was the team's top scorer in the 2018-19 season, tallying 513 points on the year for an average of 18.3 points per game. Raph also led the team in steals with 62 (2.2 per game).

Hirschey tied Nathaniel Wosmek for most rebounds for the Tigers (184 total, 6.6 per game). He also led the team in blocked shots with 59 (2.1 per game) and assists with 141 (5 per game).

The Tigers also recognized Rian Struss for leading the team in field goal percentage (61%) and free throw percentage (86%), and Louis Bueckers for having the best three-point percentage on the team (44%).

Raph, Hirschey and Bueckers were named to the all-conference team, while Wosmek earned an honorable mention.

The Tigers finished 23-5 on the season, falling to Nevis in the Section 5A quarterfinals on March 11.
