The Patriot boys basketball team capitalized on second-half turnovers in a 61-54 Mid-State Conference victory over Crosby-Ironton on Tuesday, Dec. 18.
"In the first half, we weren't rebounding too well, but we got that going in the second," Patriot guard Sean Ryan said. "We just moved the ball around more in the second half, and I think that's what helped us out."
Down 28-27 after halftime, the Patriots rattled off an 11-0 to take a lead they would not give up, although the Rangers kept it close for much of the game.
"I'm proud of our kids," head coach Rich Spiczka said. "They force you to play the game they want to play, pace- and tempo-wise, and got us into a little bit of a half-court grind, but the kids responded."
Owen Seidl finished with 14 points, followed by Jordan Schommer's 13. Vincent Miska came off the bench and added 11 points and Ryan scored 10. Tyler Manley had nine for a balanced offensive output.
"The beauty of our kids is that we don't care who does it, as long as we do it," Spiczka said. "That is why we have been able to win so many tight games. We aren't going in trying to make a certain play; we make the play they give us ... The beauty of having a bunch of guys contribute is that the other coaches have to gameplan and if you don't know who is going to score the points, it's harder to gameplan. That's an advantage for us."
