Boys basketball: Patriots remain unbeaten - Pequot tops Park Rapids, Detroit Lakes

The Pequot Lakes boys basketball remained undefeated in the MidState Conference with a 64-38 win over Park Rapids on Tuesday, Dec. 12, and a victory over Detroit Lakes on Friday, Dec. 15, by a score of 70-45.

Patriots 64, Panthers 38

In the win over the Panthers, the Patriots lead was just eight points at the halftime break, but they outscored their opponents 42-24 in the second half to pull away.

Thirteen different Patriots scored in the game, led by Zach Sjoblad's 17 points.

Chase Larson, Dylin Ackerman and Vincent Miska each chipped in with eight points.

"The guys had another strong defensive game, and that always helps our offense to get going," coach Rich Spiczka said.

Patriots 70, Lakers 45

Jordan Schommer scored 20 points, including four 3-pointers, to the Patriots to a 35-point win over the Lakers on Friday, Dec. 15. Pequot Lakes never trailed in the game.

The Patriots jumped out to a quick 9-2 lead when Adam Casanova hit a 3-pointer and Schommer followed with two of his own. After 3-point-plays by Sjoblad and Zach Senst and a 3-pointer by Ackerman, the Patriots had a 25-10 with just under nine minutes left in the first half.

With a buzzer-beater by Sjoblad, the Patriots entered the halftime break with a 40-29 lead.

Two more Schommer triples gave the Patriots a scoring run to start the second half, giving them a 51-32 lead with 14:32 left in the game.

Pequot Lakes bench players saw extended action from there as the team coasted to a victory.

Besides Schommer's 20 points, Sjoblad had 19 and Senst and Larson each had seven.
