BASKETBALL: Tigers edged by Blackduck in overtime

Zach Struss registered a game-high 27 points and 13 rebounds for the Pine River-Backus Tigers, who were defeated 80-78 in overtime by the visiting Blackduck Drakes in a Northland Conference game on Friday, Jan. 30.

Zach Struss registered a game-high 27 points and 13 rebounds for the Pine River-Backus Tigers, who were defeated 80-78 in overtime by the visiting Blackduck Drakes in a Northland Conference game on Friday, Jan. 30.

Struss hit a three-point buzzer beater at the end of regulation to force the overtime as the Tigers battled back from a 19-point deficit.

Blackduck finished with a 28-24 rebounding edge. The Tigers did play well on defense, with a 10-2 edge in steals and a 7-1 advantage in blocks, including five by Konrad Bueckers. The Drakes also committed 21 turnovers to eight for the hosts.

Henry Krecklau added 23 points and Hank Raph 15 for PR-B, which has lost three straight. The Tigers, 5-4 in the conference and 10-9 overall, were scheduled to face Nevis on Tuesday, Feb. 3, and play at Northome-Kelliher on Friday, Feb. 6.

On Tuesday, Jan. 27, Daniel Hudrlik scored a game-high 25 points and secured 13 rebounds to lead the Rangers to a non-conference win over PR-B.

Noah Gindorff tallied 14 points and 11 rebounds and Jack Silgen and Brady Tesdahl each totaled 12 points as the Rangers, won for the ninth straight game to improve to 13-4 overall.

Hank Raph finished with 16 points and Struss added 14 while Zach Semmler had seven assists for the Tigers. C-I enjoyed a 29-20 edge in rebounds.
