Baseball: Tigers fall to Jaguars

Irvin Tulenchik and Nolan Olivier each tallied hits as the West No. 3 seeded Pine River-Backus Tigers lost to East No. 1 seeded Hinckley-Finlayson Jaguars 10-0 in the Section 5-1A loser’s bracket Monday, June 7.

Tulenchik started for PR-B and struck out three in 2.1 innings.

The Tigers finish their season 17-7.

Tulenchik tallied two hits in No. 3 seeded Pine River-Backus’ 3-2 loss in nine innings to No. 1 seeded Sebeka in the Section 5-1A semifinals Friday, June 4.

Konnor King struck out six in 7.2 innings for PR-B.

PRB 12, Nevis 11

Trevor Redding accounted for seven of the 12 Pine River-Backus runs as the No. 3 seeded Tigers upset the No. 2 seeded Nevis Tigers 12-11 in the Section 5-1A quarterfinals Wednesday, June 2.

Nevis swept the regular-season series with PRB 12-0 and 14-8, but Redding finished 2-4 with four runs and three RBIs from his leadoff position.

Tulenchik, King and Rian Struss all drove in two runs for PR-B.

Ryder Compton was 2-3 with a triple and two runs scored. King doubled as one of his two hits as did Tulenchik. Corbin Knapp was 2-2 with an RBI.

Tulenchik pitched the win. He allowed 10 runs, five earned on 12 hits and two walks. He struck out two.
