Pine River-Backus’ Ryder Compton was 3-3 with a home run, four RBIs and three runs scored for the Tigers as the crushed Lake of the Woods 14-3 in a Northland Conference game Thursday, May 13.
“The team played extremely well,” coach Mike Dinnel said. “We kept our physical and mental errors to a minimum, and continued to put the ball in play. Konnor King pitched outstanding once again for us by throwing strikes and trusting the defense. Ryder Compton was fantastic at the plate and even hustled out an inside the park homerun.”
King pitched five innings and allowed four hits with seven strikeouts on the mound for the Tigers, who moved to 12-3 on the season with the win.
“Our young team is building an identity of being aggressive, communicating, supportive and bringing their best attitude and effort to the field,” Dinnel said. “It has been fun watching not only our seniors (Nolan Olivier and Redding) become leaders, but others step up as well.”

Rian Struss collected three hits including a double as the Tigers improved to 11-3 overall.
Corbin Knapp gave up two runs on three hits over six innings to record the win.
