Baseball: Patriots win four straight

Nic Kotaska and Clay Erickson put on a pair of pitching displays for the Pequot Lakes Patriots who swept the Staples-Motley Cardinals 7-3 and 2-0 Saturday, May 22, in a Mid-State Conference doubleheader.

Erickson pitched the Game One win. He struck out nine over six scoreless innings. He allowed just four hits and three walks. Erik Larsen picked up the save for Pequot.

Andrew Villareal was 2-3 with a run, while Kotaska hit a double and drove in a run and Caden Nelson doubled and scored twice.

Kotaska struck out two, walked one and allowed just six hits in his complete-game victory.

Villareal continued with the hot bat as he finished 3-3 with two RBIs. Larsen tripled and later scored and Sam Rysavy scored the other Patriots' run.

Erickson went 3-3 with one run, a double with two RBIs for the Pequot Lakes Patriots leading the team to a 3-1 victory against the Greenway Raiders in a non-conference game Thursday, May 20.

Kotaska and Rysavy each scored a run for the Patriots.

Pequot Lakes 10, Osakis 2

Kotaska went 2-4 with one run and a double and earned the win as pitcher for the Pequot Lakes Patriots in a 10-2 win against the Osakis Silverstreaks Tuesday, May 18.

He also pitched seven innings and struck out seven.

Erik Larsen went 1-2 with two runs and two RBIs. Villareal went 2-3 with one run and two RBIs for Pequot.

Riggs Magnuson, Robbie Stephens and Taevyn Brown each recorded an RBI in the game.
