The Pequot Lakes Patriots baseball team swept Wadena-Deer Creek by scores 6-3 and 8-0 on Tuesday, May 12, to finish one of their best Mid-State Conference seasons in almost a decade.
The Patriots improved to finish third with an 8-3-1 in the conference while the Wolverines fell to 2-8.
In the opener, Austin Mesenbrink pitched a complete game as he struck out six to earn the win. Pequot Lakes was outhit 7-4, although one of the Patriots' hits was a triple by Jared Sewall.
In the nightcap, Ethan Lehman earned the pitching win as he allowed three hits while striking out five. Both teams played errorless ball. Mesenbrink and Jack Kreitz each finished with two hits.
Pequot Lakes, 11-4-1, was scheduled to face Osakis before playing a doubleheader at Pine River-Backus at 4 p.m. on Friday, May 22.
