Baseball: Lightning split weekend games

The Nisswa Lightning topped Swanville before falling to Randall the following day.

Michael Hoge batted in two runs as the Nisswa Lightning topped the Swanville Swans 4-2 on Saturday, June 12.

The Lightning scored all of their runs in the seventh inning to rally to a victory after Swanville scored a run in the fourth and one in the fifth.

In the bottom of the seventh, Nisswa scored on a single by Tyler Wittwer to make it 2-1, then tied the game on an error with bases loaded. Hoge then delivered his two-run single to seal the victory.

Tyler Wittwer, the fourth and final Lightning pitcher of the day, pitched 2.2 innings to earn the victory on the mound.

Cubs 9, Lightning 1

The Randall Cubs hit three two-run home runs in the same inning to overwhelm the Lightning 9-1 on Sunday, June 13.

Kody Ruedisili provided the only run for Nisswa with a solo shot in the eighth inning.

Starting pitcher Eric Bolt took the loss for the Lightning on the mound. Carter Dox pitched in relief, striking out eight batters.
