Pine River-Backus Pulse dance team is scheduled to open the season Saturday, Dec. 6 at Detroit Lakes.
Team members, according to the Minnesota State High School League website, include juniors Brianna Butricks, Gracie Crimmins and Hanna Milham; sophomores Kiera Schovel and Lauren Penkhus; eighth-graders Ashley Shamp, Averie Sawyer, Kyana Vondal-Parsons and Victoria Koering; and seventh-grader Bailey Crimmins.
Kendra Kozelka is the head coach while Geno Wood is the assistant.
“We had a new team last year, and it was a huge success for the girls,” Kozelka said. “We are coming back with power. A lot of our girls have never danced competitively. This year we have an assistant coach (Wood), and that has been an amazing change for the better.”
Kozelka adds that she’s excited to build off of last season.
“We have worked long and hard to gain confidence and the strength needed to compete,” she said. “Our first year went well, and I cannot wait for year two. We are learning how to do things as a team and accomplish our goals together.”
The coach also appreciates community support.
“I always look forward to parents and community members who approach asking to help the team,” Kozelka said. “I am trying to get our name back in the community, and love to see the support. I can’t wait to see what kind of fun fundraisers are in our future.”
