Jeremiah Piepkorn and Jason Roepke each belted solo homers for the Nisswa Lighting, who were edged 6-5 by the unbeaten Avon Lakers in an amateur baseball non-division game Sunday, June 9.

Piepkorn finished 2-5 with a double and Roepke was 2-3. Chris Peterson and Morgan Shepherd also had two hits each for the Lightning, 5-4 overall. Nisswa is scheduled to host the Staples Lumberbats at 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 14, and play at Freeport at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 15.

Scott Sand took the pitching loss for the Lightning.

Lightning 4, Fort Ripley 2

On Friday, June 7, Aaron Jenkins cracked a first-inning grand slam that gave the Nisswa Lightning all the runs they needed to hand the Fort Ripley Rebels their first loss of the season, 4-2, in a North Division game.

Jason Roepke pitched six shutout innings in relief for the win. He struck out five, didn't walk a batter and allowed six hits. Jeremiah Piepkorn finished 2-3 with a double and Tory Miller singled twice for Nisswa.

Brian Skluzacek and Logan Kallis each doubled for Fort Ripley. Kallis, Ethan Branum and Chris Smolke had multiple hits.
