Track and Field: Patriot girls 2nd, boys 3rd at Mid-State
Desera Engholm of Pequot Lakes won both the shot put and discus on Tuesday, May 14, as the Patriot girls track team finished second overall in the Mid-State Conference Championship.
The Patriots finished behind Detroit Lakes, with Carly Chaney winning the 800-meter race and Lydia Hubbard the high jump. The 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams also gained the top spot.
For the Pequot boys, Bode Magnuson won the 100-meter dash, Brooks Anderson the 300 hurdles, Russell Pierzinski the triple jump and Jacob Faacks the shot put as the team finished third overall.
"Bode Magnuson ran a great 100 dash to be conference champion, along with Brooks Anderson doing the same in the 300 hurdles, Jacob Faacks in the shot put and Russel Pierzinski in the Triple jump, so (it was) a great day," boys coach Dave Guenther said. "Russel and Jacob are really coming around as Nick Barth in the throwing department continue to improve. I like what I see in our relays and Vinnie Sposito has turned in some good times on the 200."
Tigers boys fourth, girls seventh in Park Region
Nate Wosmek of Pine River-Backus swept the hurdles events to lead the Tigers boys to fourth place at the Park Region Conference Meet on Tuesday, May 14.
Wosmek took the top spot in the 110 hurdles by nearly a full second, finishing in 15.29 seconds. In the 300 hurdles, Wosmek finished in 41.44 seconds.
The boys had a third-place finish from the 4x200 relay team with a time of 1:38.53, while Kyosuke Marcum and Finn O'Dell finished fourth in the high jump and pole vault, respectively.
The Tiger girls finished seventh overall, led by Gabby Rainwater's third-place finish in the discus with a throw of 97 feet. The girls 4x800 relay team also finished third.
Anna Downie finished fourth in the 100 hurdles and fifth in the 300 hurdles.
