The 10th annual Nisswa Firecracker Run on Saturday, July 6, honored the late Jim Dullum, who died last November.

Dullum, known to many as "Mr. Nisswa," owned Martin's Sport Shop on Main Street and was a charter member of the Nisswa Lions Club. The Firecracker Run bibs featured a photo of Dullum and the gas station his father, Martin, once owned in Nisswa. Race organizer David Janowiec, of The Recess Factory, presented a plaque to Dullum's wife, Shirley, and the entire Dullum family, who participated in the event with matching T-shirts.

More than 2,000 runners took off on Main Street in the Firecracker Run 5K and 10K races on a pleasant morning. As is tradition, end-of-the-race festivities included a crawfish boil, a free Pabst beer for adults, Slip 'N Slide and bubble machine outside the Nisswa Community Center.

The 10K race included 101 racers (92 finishers) who opted to be chip-timed, with Nick Golebiowski, 23, finishing first in 32:22. Michael Kuhlman, 28, Eden Prairie, paced the 145 5K runners who were timed (125 finishers). Kuhlman crossed the finish line first in 17:27. For complete results of racers who were timed, visit
