I urge Nisswa and Pequot Lakes to continue recycling (Recycling bins being pulled from Nisswa Fire Hall, Echo Journal, June 26). There is a strong demand for recycling in Nisswa and Pequot Lakes.
A year ago when we vacationed here both Pequot Lakes and Nisswa dropoff bins were overflowing. According to the story in your paper, Nisswa Sanitation blames the growth of the program as a reason to stop the program.
The proposed alternative of taking recycling all the way to the Crow Wing County Landfill is not practical. Recycling has many benefits. This is the time to expand these programs, not stop them.
One option is to offer curbside recycling, but also keep the dropoff bins for temporary summer residents like me and others who will not have access to curbside pickup.
