Letter to the Editor: Thank you, blood donors, for gift of life

I would like to thank the citizens of Pequot Lakes and the surrounding communities for donating the gift of life at the Red Cross blood drive at the Pequot Lakes American Legion on Aug. 5 and 6. The response for this blood drive was absolutely amazing! I thought the COVID-19 epidemic may hurt the drive, but I now believe it was the reason for the terrific response.

On Aug. 5, we had 93 appointments with 87 presenting donors. With the benefit of collecting double red cells (2 RBC or Power Reds), we collected 101 units of blood. That is the most for any one drive in all 46 blood drives I have hosted since 2003.

On Aug. 6, we had 41 appointments with 37 presenting donors. Again, with the benefit of collecting double red cells, we collected 41 units of blood.

The Red Cross had projected a total of 100 units for the two drives and our total was 142. Amazing! Thank you to the many thoughtful, giving people in this area. You are the best!
