Letter to the editor: Act of kindness greatly appreciated
I have been a resident of Pequot Lakes for over four years. I am a retired nurse from the Robbinsdale area and have always wanted to live in this area. My mom and grandma lived in Swanburg for many years so I have spent most of my life in the area.
I love this community and the smaller community in the Scandia North Condos. I was sure we would be spending many years enjoying all the lakes area has to offer, but then in June of this past year, I was diagnosed with a terminal primary bladder cancer that had spread to my spine.
The past six months have been a whirlwind of tests, surgery, chemo and radiation.
I am indeed grateful for the outpouring of love, support, visits, gifts and cards from this community, but never have I been humbled as much as by a knock on my door recently by Chad, a local police officer, bearing an anonymous gift of money.
Chad stated this "pocket change" jar gift is something they do every year. (I'm not sure who "they" are.) This act of kindness was thoughtful and cemented my belief that the city of Pequot Lakes is indeed the greatest place to live in our great state.
Thanks to all the contributors to this gift! My heart bursts with pride and admiration for all our city employees.
