I read your article on the proposed Nisswa sound barrier and wondered why a non vote turns into a yes vote? Who determined that this would be appropriate?

It seems that it would unjustly tilt the vote tally in favor of those wanting the wall to be constructed. Who would benefit from this? It just isn't right.

I don't live in Nisswa, but something just doesn't seem good about this way of counting votes. Why not a non vote being counted as a "no" vote? That would be fairer, simply because many may not be aware of the consequence of not voting at all.

How about "no" being "no" and "yes" being "yes"? Tally the actual votes cast and go from there. Just my thoughts.
