Letters to the Editor: Storm shows resiliency of our community

Early Thursday morning, Sept. 4, most of us were woken up by strong storms with incredible wind gusts that took out hundreds of trees and left thousands without power. Thankfully, we had no serious injuries or deaths as a result of the storm.

If you suffered any property damage, please be sure to contact your insurance agency to make a claim and find out what's covered and what's not. The Minnesota Department of Commerce has a Disaster Information Center on its website that is filled with helpful information.

You can also contact them by phone at 800-657-3602. Please don't hesitate to contact me if I can be of assistance. You can reach me at 218-828-3626.

I also wanted to take a moment to thank folks who rolled up their sleeves and helped their neighbors. Our neighbors came by with hand saws to help me and my wife clear downed trees from our driveway. Ours was not an uncommon story either; people were helping others clean up everywhere I went.

This storm has shown once again that our community is tough and resilient, and full of good people willing to step up and lend a hand.
