Thank you very much to the chamber and the judges of the Stars and Stripes Parade. You made our summer!
For the first time in many years, the Pequot Lakes Area Historical Society entered a float in the parade and we actually won first place in our category! I'm not bringing this up to remind readers how good we are because, while we are very fortunate to have some creative thinkers and doers in our group, we are your basic garden variety organization. We think we'd like to do something like this, but for various reasons, decide not to. We forget how a project like this can bring a group together and I'm glad we went ahead with it this time.
We had a fantastic time planning the float, putting it together, adding last-minute touches, worrying about the weather and then watching the crowd and waving.
We were celebrities of our own making, and it was fun! There must be other groups who debate every year whether or not to enter this parade (just like we do). Vote yes next time, and have a share in the fun.
It will make the parade bigger and better and you will have a great time doing it.
