Letter to the editor: Betsy DeVos Wild West show rides into town

Step right up, folks, and, for the price of your tax dollar, you own a piece of the show! It's got clowns, carnival barkers and wild beasts, and - she's a real beauty, one in a million, she's a billionaire!...

Step right up, folks, and, for the price of your tax dollar, you own a piece of the show! It's got clowns, carnival barkers and wild beasts, and - she's a real beauty, one in a million, she's a billionaire!

And she wants to teach your kids the right ways to learn things, and fix our education system, and protect our kids from marauding grizzly bears, with teachers packing heat in formerly gun-free school zones!

Local gunslinger-columnists joined her fight: Ol' One-Eyed - ("As I See It") - Pete (Abler) once wrote on "guns-or-butter" economics, decrying "political leaders who think butter is ... more important than bullets ... (for them) butter includes computers, internet access (for the classrooms) ... child care, ad nauseam."

Yep, pardner, bullets make better learning tools, for "hitting what you aim at."

"We must fix our education system for our kids to 'Make America Great Again.'" (President Trump). And "fix" it, Betsy DeVos will, promising that God will be brought back into the classrooms. Science? Not so much. Darwinism? No - fake science! Dinosaurs? OK, boys and girls, today we learned that there was a dinosaur, but the dinosaur had batteries in it, and he was created at Wal-Mart, 6,000 years ago.

A central lakes middle school teacher, asked for one word to describe Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos, offered: "uneducated." So I asked my teacher-family members, in another Midwestern state, and only heard thoughts of "trying to maintain a sense of hope for the future."

"Hope" for the future - but expecting worse?

"What scares me about (Trump) is, number one, his ignorance. I'm afraid of his getting us into a (cataclysmic) war," - Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y.

Ignorance. Uneducated. Got it. Hang on, folks, the show, the wildest show on earth, must go on. And, sorry, no refunds.
