Pequot Lakes Library: Kids summer reading contest ends Aug. 31

Curbside pickup continues at library

EchoJournalNEWS.JPG

Kids, If you’ve been reading The Newbery Medal books this summer, bring your list of at least 10 of them that you’ve read in to the library by the end of August and you will receive a certificate good at Dairy Queen. What fun - good reading and good eating!

Notes about this and that

While we are open, with masks, we are also continuing curbside pickup. Just email or call with requests, and we will let you know where you may pick up your books.

We’re always so thankful for our daily volunteers, but a special thanks go to our Sheri Moe for coordinating the book sale and for all of you who came to purchase books. Approximately $1,800 was raised, which will be used for the operation of the library.

Also, thank you to those of you who continue to donate new books and audiobooks. This helps us stretch our book-purchasing monies.

We truly appreciate our patrons and volunteers.

The library is now featuring artists from around the area. The displays will change every two months or seasonally. Pequot Lakes’s Kevin Olson is exhibiting a selection of his cartoons through September. Visit his display for a look at how humor can be portrayed. Also check out the east-facing Pequot Lakes Post Office wall to see Olson’s design of a cartoon depicting old Pequot.

On our display table starting in September we will begin a focus on Native Americans in north-central Minnesota. Books and fact sheets will be available.

Date to Note

Thursday, Sept. 3, 10:30 a.m.: First Thursday Book Club meeting at the south end of Trailside Park, Pequot Lakes. Book to read is “O Pioneers!,” by Willa Cather. Bring a folding chair and a bag lunch. Between bites, we will wear masks. If the weather doesn’t favor us, Joni will send out a Zoom invitation.

On Oct. 1, we’ll be discussing “Murder Must Advertise,” by Dorothy Sayers. The book club is open to anyone interested. There’s no need to call ahead.
