Ian Patrick McNamara, 31, passed away in an accident at his home in rural Pequot Lakes, on November 18. Ian will be remembered for his beautiful smile, funny chuckle, and kind, generous spirit. He enjoyed the outdoors: fishing, hiking, kayaking, darkhouse-spearing, and swimming across Loon Lake. He loved to travel, and he loved his Catholic Faith.
Ian graduated from Brainerd High School, excelling in math, music, and science, and went on to earn his B.S. in Horticultural Science at the University of Minnesota. While there, he enjoyed a semester in Venezuela that sparked his travel and multicultural interests. He later worked with the Conservation Corps on the North Shore of Lake Superior and in The BWCAW. Most recently, he was employed at Grandview Lodge in Nisswa, first as a horticulturist, and later serving in Public Areas, where his hard work was well appreciated.
Preceded in death by his grandparents, Jim and Mary McNamara and John and Joan Klemp, and his Uncle Peter Klemp, a long-term resident at Fox Developmental Center in Dwight, Illinois. Ian treasured his grandparents and his Uncle Peter, and they treasured him.
Ian is survived by his parents, Brian and Marie McNamara, of Pequot Lakes, MN, and older brothers Leo (Jessica) McNamara, Minneapolis, and Brendan McNamara, St. Paul. A favorite uncle to his nieces and nephews, Nora, Maeve, Amir, and Declan. Ian will be greatly missed by his many aunts, uncles, cousins, and by his many wonderful friends.
