Harvey Leonard Hollenback
March 25, 1931 - August 20, 2022
Harvey passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2022. His body was donated to the Anatomy Bequest Program at the University of Minnesota Medical School.
Harvey was raised in Richfield, MN on small truck farm. He graduated from Washburn High School in 1949, and played hockey two years in the state tournament. He enlisted in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict and served four years. He married in 1953. He was general manager of the Officers Club and was honorably discharged with rank of Staff Sgt. Following his discharge he graduated from San Francisco City College with a degree in Hotel-Restaurant Management. Upon graduation he was hired by the Kahler Corp. in Rochester, MN as an assistant food and beverage manager. He went on to become General Manager of the Kahler Hotel and Executive Vice President of the Kahler Hotel division and was with the company for 28 years. He was past president of MN Hotel and Resort Association and served on many boards; he was also very active in the American Hotel Association and an active Shriner in Rochester. He retired and relocated to Pequot Lakes, MN where he was an active member of Crosslake Lutheran Church serving on church council, finance committee, building committee and also Vice President of Whitefish Golf Club.
Throughout his career, he and his wife, Marilyn had the opportunity to attend hotel meetings in a continuing education capacity held in Denmark, Norway, Finland, Russia, Germany, Peru, Switzerland, Brazil, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Czech Republic and Mexico. He was later recruited to teach Hotel Administration at the International Hotel School in Parpan, Switzerland and taught six semesters. In December 2005, he was elected in the Hospitality Hall of Fame by his peers. Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, Gladys and Harvey Hollenback. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Marilyn; children Diane (Craig) Dallas, TX, Donna (Rick) Seattle, WA; one grandson, Cameron Ling (Carly); two great-grandchildren, Caden and Callie Ling, Dallas, TX.
A gathering of family and friends with a dessert reception honoring Harvey will be held on Sept. 20, 2022, at 2 p.m. at Crosslake Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude’s or Shriners Children Hospitals or a charity of your choice.
