Barbara Newton

Barbara (Lagerstrand) Newton of Jenkins, MN, passed away on November 28, 2018 at the age of 78. She was born in St. Paul, MN, on September 3, 1940, the eldest child of Eileen and Paul Lagerstrand.

Barb moved with her family to Saint Croix Beach at age 8 and graduated from Stillwater High School. She married Robert Newton on July 2, 1960, and moved to Jenkins, MN. Barb went on to receive her LPN degree and began working as a nurse at the Pine River nursing home, and later at the Minnesota State Hospital. After retirement, she went back to work part-time as a home nurse for Good Neighbor. She always had a nurturing and caregiving heart.

In addition to raising her own three children, Laurie, Michael "Buddy" and Brenda, Barb helped raise several of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. All those who knew her loved her. She touched the lives of many through her kindness and generous spirit. Barb was a devoted friend and was always willing to help anyone in need. She loved to travel, shop, and talk on the phone.

Barb was always willing to lend a listening ear. She was active in Bible study, birthday club, and genealogy. She was very spiritual and had a love of angels. We have faith that she is now our Angel watching down over us and guiding us.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Eileen Lagerstrand; husband, Robert Newton; daughter, Laurie (Newton) O'Neill; son, Michael "Buddy" Newton; and infant sister, Eileen. She is survived by her siblings, Paulette (Joseph) Krueger, Karen (Vern) Rauscher, Michael (Carmen) Lagerstrand; daughter, Brenda (Kevin) Keene; grandchildren, Kristina (Paul) Schaus, Jessica (Leo) McNamara, Megan (Jeff) Flom, Christopher Keene, Kelly Keene, Katrine (John) Kimball, Jared Adkins; great grandchildren, Allyson, Ethan, Lauren, Nora, Ivy, Maeve, Preston, Jackson, Liam, Connor; and beloved dog, Fuzzy.
