Menahga blanks Tigers 13-0

Rian Struss, Dalton Middendorf and Corbin Knapp each had hits, but the Pine River-Backus Tigers baseball team fell 13-0 to the Menahga Braves Monday, May 20, in a non-conference game.

Tom Litzau was the winning pitcher for Menahga while Logan Gordon took the loss. The Braves scored six times in both the fourth and sixth innings.

PR-B, 6-9 overall, is scheduled to open the Section 5A playoffs Thursday, May 23.

Tigers 7, Hill City 4

On Friday, May 17, Torry Hirschey struck out six over 5 1/3 innings, doubled and drove in a run for Pine River-Backus in a 7-4 non-conference win over the Hill City Hornets.

Logan Gordon and Dalton Middendorf both finished 2-4 with doubles for PR-B, which took advantage of four Hill City errors.

Northome-Kelliher 9, Tigers 4

On Thursday, May 16, Torry Hirschey drove in two runs and Steve Gardner added an RBI for Pine River-Backus in a loss to Northome-Kelliher in a Northland Conference game at Bemidji State University.

Rian Struss and George Davidson each had two hits for the Tigers, who drop to 4-5 in the conference. Davidson was the losing pitcher while Jake Waldo earned the victory.
