In honor of Earth Day (April 22), Brainerd Lakers United for the Environment, the Brainerd High School Eco Club and Brainerd Area Coalition for Peace invite the public to gather for an Earth Day celebration, march and picnic at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 27, at Gregory Park, North Sixth and Juniper streets, Brainerd.

There will be a march from Gregory Park to the intersection of West Washington and Northwest Fourth streets. A vigil for Earth will be held before returning to Gregory Park. Some signs will be available and participants are encouraged to bring environmentally themed signs and flags.

The program in the park, promoting environmental awareness and discussion, will feature music, informational tables, an open mic and speakers, including Pastor Leslie Moughty, of the Brainerd United Church of Christ, and Eleanor Burkett, of the Nature Conservancy.

People may bring a picnic lunch to eat during the Earth Day program. Some picnic tables will be available and picnickers may wish to bring chairs and tables. Beverages will be provided.

In the event of bad weather, the Earth Day program will move to the Brainerd United Church of Christ Fellowship Hall at 415 Juniper St., near Gregory Park.

The Earth Day celebration is a free event open to the public. Groups interested in sharing environmental information are encouraged to set up a table during the picnic and Earth Day program.
