Undercover agent busts man for soliciting a child: Clarissa man faces criminal sexual assault charges
A 37-year-old man faces criminal sexual conduct charges after soliciting what he believed to be a 14-year-old girl—but instead was an undercover agent.
Joshua Silverius Hauer of Clarissa was charged Wednesday, Oct. 31, in Crow Wing County District Court in Brainerd for four felonies—soliciting a child to engage in sexual conduct, soliciting the child through electronic communication, describing sexual conduct with a child and distributing material of sexual conduct to a child. His next court appearance is Nov. 14.
According to the probable cause court document, a Crow Wing County Sheriff undercover agent created an undercover social media account using a persona of a 14-year-old girl. On Oct. 25, the investigator was utilizing said persona and was contacted by Hauer. The investigator, posing as the girl, had an ongoing chat with the defendant from Oct. 25-29. During the chat Hauer was reminded he was chatting with a 14-year-old girl who was in the eighth grade. Eventually, Hauer turned the conversation to sexual. He told the persona if she ever wanted to have some fun with an old guy that he would love to be that guy. He also asked how far the persona had gone with a guy. Upon learning the persona had sex once before he asked if she was ready to do it again and asked when/where he could meet her. Eventually a date to meet was set. Prior to the meeting, Hauer made several sexual comments to the persona and sent her an inappropriate photograph. He also confirmed to the persona to not tell anyone "cause I'm the one that would get in trouble cause of your age," the complaint stated.
On Oct. 29, Hauer came to the prearranged location in Crow Wing County to meet with the persona as previously arranged. He was arrested after showing up and admitted to law enforcement he came to meet with a 14-year-old to have sex.
