Boys hockey: Lightning lose three straight

The holiday break was not kind to the Northern Lakes Lightning boys hockey team, as the team recorded three consecutive losses in the Ralph Engelstad Classic in Thief River Falls.

Spartans 5, Lightning 2

The Lightning suffered their sixth straight loss in a 5-2 defeat at the hands of the Fargo North Spartans on the final day of the Ralph Engelstad Classic Friday, Dec. 29.

The team moved to 2-9 overall on the season.

TRF 7, Lightning 0

Northern Lakes goalies Wyatt Fink and Jake Arnold were overwhelmed by the Thief River Falls offense as the Prowlers edged the Lightning 7-0 on the second day of the Ralph Engelstad Classic Thursday, Dec. 28.

Arnold and Fink combined for 35 saves in the game for a Lightning team that was outshot 42-20.

Pirates 6, Lightning 1

Zech Trenkenschu netted the only goal for the Northern Lakes Lightning in a 6-1 loss to the Crookston Pirates in the first round of the Classic Wednesday, Dec. 27.

Luke Tangen assisted on Trenkenschu's goal which briefly tied the game 1-1 in the second period.

Crookston peppered Fink with 52 shots while the Lightning were able to put just 18 shots on the Pirates' net.
