Free nitrate testing offered July 30 in Crosslake

Event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at city hall

The Crow Wing Soil and Water Conservation District will offer free nitrate testing from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, July 30, at Crosslake City Hall.

The SWCD said well water should be tested for coliform bacteria every year, nitrate every other year, arsenic and lead at least once, and manganese before a baby drinks the water.

To test water, people should:

  • Run cold tap water for 5-10 minutes.

  • Collect water in a clean baggie (double bag) or clean jar.

  • Keep water cool until arrival.

  • Collect water any time within one day of analysis.
