Pequot Lakes American Legion Post No. 49 is sponsoring a blood drive for the American Red Cross from noon to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 5, and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 6. Both drives will take place at the American Legion meeting hall.
Appointments can be scheduled online at redcrossblood.org or by calling Ken Meyer at 218-568-5414.
Both Whole Blood and Double Red Cells will be collected on Wednesday and Thursday.
Preparation for donating blood should include getting a good night's sleep, eating a healthy breakfast or lunch - or both if the appointment is later in the day - and drinking a few extra glasses of water or fluids in the days before donating.
The Red Cross has made a few changes this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic:
Everyone at blood drives is required to wear a mask. For those who don’t have their own, one is provided.
All donations will be tested for COVID antibodies through Oct. 15.
No walk-ins allowed, unless they someone arrives within 15 minutes (before or after) of an open appointment slot or a no-show.
The registration process has been updated. Those who do not complete RapidPass before their appointments are no longer getting paper reading. Instead, they are asked to complete RapidPass on tablets that are provided.
Temperatures of both staff and donors will be checked before entering the blood drive.
Donors are asked now to bring their children along.
