WASHINGTON, D.C. -- A southern Minnesota family will be in the White House spotlight Tuesday when honored in an event that includes discussion about how to support the next generation of farmers.

Ryan and Tiffany Batalden of Lamberton are among 15 of what the White House calls "champions of change" in rural America.

A news release from the White House and U.S. Department of Agriculture says the 15 are "leaders from across the country who are doing extraordinary things to build the bench for the next generation of farming and ranching."

The Bataldens are fifth-generation farmers in Cottonwood County. The couple, with three young children, grow organic corn, soybeans, oilseeds and small grains on 380 acres, raise a small number of livestock and have a direct-market popcorn business called Patriot Pops.

The ceremony at 9 a.m. Central time will be streamed at www.whitehouse.gov/live .
